Closed Rhinoplasty
Closed rhinoplasty is a surgical technique that involves reshaping the profile of the nose only through internal incisions in the nostrils. There are never external incisions and as a result, they do not leave visible surgical scars. Since the procedure is technically more complex, closed rhinoplasty is performed by highly experienced and skilled surgeons.

When the volume change of the nose is significant and the skin of the nose is not sufficiently elastic, it may be necessary to continue with open rhinoplasty and thus reduce the excess tissue.
Closed rhinoplasty – rhinoplasty without scars
The closed rhinoplasty technique does not leave any visible surgical scars because it does not contain incisions from the outside. The surgery is performed only by making incisions from inside the nostrils. Through them, the shape of the pyramid of the nose is changed by forming the structure of bone and cartilage. In most cases, rhinoplasty involves reducing the size of the nose. In order to perform closed rhinoplasty, it is important that the skin of the nose is flexible to adapt to changing the structure of the nose.
Closed Rhinoplasty and Anatomy

Is closed rhinoplasty painful?

Male closed rhinoplasty gives a man’s nose a straight, regular, and more masculine appearance. As for the female one, aim for a more delicate result, interfering with the tip of the nose if necessary, and taking the nose slightly upward to smooth out the features. How long does the nose wound heal after closed rhinoplasty?
Modern surgery – thanks to the surgical technique and type of anesthesia – is less invasive than it used to be. However, all of these surgical interventions result in little swelling. Therefore, postoperative neoplastic edema in closed rhinoplasty should be considered very normal. Most of the swelling will go away within two to three weeks. It will be necessary to wait a few months for all the edema to be absorbed, and it may be possible to facilitate this by applying a sensitive local drainage massage.

The advantage of closed rhinoplasty is that the functions of the nasal structure as well as aesthetics can be dealt with together or separately in one intervention. How is closed rhinoplasty performed?
Step 1 – Anesthesia
The surgery will be performed with general or local anesthesia and/or intravenous sedation.
Step 2 – Procedure
Depending on the type of technique, appropriate incisions will be made in the nasal structure to start the surgery. This procedure usually takes 2 to 3 hours; It can also be bypassed depending on the issue to be fixed.
After the internal or external incisions are sutured, a splint is placed to protect the nose and it will be removed 7 days after the surgery. This pad will help align the tissues and bones of the nose in the newly approved manner. Ligaments and splints will be removed during the first postoperative examination.
When the protection is removed, the new nasal structure is immediately noticeable, but there is some possible inflammation, congestion and bruising. The shock will subside in a few days.
Step 3 – Results
The result of closed rhinoplasty is permanent and does not change, but it takes 8 to 12 months for the real new change to appear. However, little and gradual progression may be seen over months as the bruising and swelling lessen.
Postoperative Nasal Surgery
After closed rhinoplasty, the patient wears a nose splint while sleeping to protect against possible external influences. An internal splint will also be placed inside your nose, which will act as an internal splint to keep the airway open, clean and free of crusts.
When your face is swollen, your surgeon will recommend using cold compresses to reduce swelling and reduce pain. You may need to keep your head above heart level and still with complete bed rest for the first few days after surgery.
Are there risks in closed rhinoplasty?
Like any other surgical procedure, closed rhinoplasty carries risks such as bleeding, infection, and adverse reactions to anesthesia. Other potential risks of rhinoplasty include:
Frequent nosebleeds
Perforation of the nasal septum
Persistent pain with the tumor and the appearance of spots.
Difficulty breathing through the nostrils
The nose may have an asymmetrical appearance
Persistent numbness in or around the nose
complexity and controversies about the type of nose
The need for a secondary surgery as a result of the poor previous surgery.
Tips for all people considering closed rhinoplasty
For closed rhinoplasty, incisions are made inside the nostrils. Because the cases covered are less complex. Light internal incisions are sufficient to perform the required procedure.
Closed rhinoplasty should only be performed on the nose that has fully developed bone and cartilage tissue; That is, people over the age of 16 or 17, because this is the average age at which the nose is fully developed.
If the surgery is performed before the nose is fully grown, the continuous growth of the nose can alter the results of the surgery and cause potential problems and complications. And even a secondary rhinoplasty may be needed in the future.
